About Me

I've never been one for formalities, so I'll keep this simple:

Hey there. I'm Mindy.

I spent my formative years in the wonderfully mixed-up state of Maryland, perhaps the only state in the Union where you can find authentic New York-style pizza alongside genuine Southern sweet tea. Here, you can say "y'all" or "you guys" and fit in either way (a fact that the linguist in me finds particularly intriguing). I grew up loving the Baltimore Ravens, not for their football prowess, but because their mascot was connected to the dreary and brilliant Edgar Allan Poe. I passed the languid summertime of my youth with books and writing journals in my hands.

It was inevitable, though, that my love for the outdoors would overpower all else, so I moved

2,000 miles from Maryland to Montana to study natural resources. While for the most part I loved where I lived, I discovered that the scientist within me was overshadowed by my love for creative writing and working with the public . I excelled in any class that involved writing, creativity, or language learning (hablo español), while the sciences proved to be a constant struggle for my dreamer's mind. I graduated on time and mostly in one piece, but something was missing.

Now, post-grad, my path has turned decidedly back to my roots. I am tapping into that well of creativity so abundant in my youth that was left to dry up under the ruthless sun of a nothing-but-facts science degree. What I learned was important, no doubt, and will be an asset as I pursue this new path (anyone need a scientific article proofread?), but it's high time I took confident steps down a new road, one that I know to suit my brain and body, both so fond of wandering.

Interests and Skills

My interests and skillsets are widely varied and always changing. At a glance, I enjoy:

  • Outdoor sports, especially surfing, slacklining, and hiking
  • Horseback riding
  • Creative writing
  • Language learning
